Rum Tasting Nights – How do they Work?!

Rum. It’s the New Gin!

I’ve been hearing that for quite a while now. Over a year at least. But the fact is, Gin keeps evolving and the high sales volumes keep being maintained. However. I’ve been hearing whispers from certain Supermarkets that while Gin Sales are waaay out in front, sales levels have actually plateaued, where as Rum has shown a steady and significant increase over the first 2 quarters of 2019.

So it's Official. (Sort of) . Rum IS Coming.

Now in my opinion, the only advantage Gin has over Rum (after from the fact in can be made and sold in a mere fraction of the time) is that the Gin Market is all about Gin and TONIC. Where as Rum…it’s that thing. What do you mix it with?! Coke and Ginger Beer and great shouts, but people do steer clear. Which leaves Rum as a Cocktail Ingredient, and the reality is you either don’t know how to make decent Rum Cocktails. Or, you really can’t be arsed to make them, especially when for Gin, all’s you need is a bottle of Gin, a bottle of Tonic, then a simple Garnish of your choice.

So my Rum Tasting Nights concentrate more on Serves. Cocktails, Mixers etc. As opposed to the many Tasty Brands out there. I want to show what’s possible with Rum and how to use it.

Rum Tasting Night Format

We start the evening with a Cocktail while I share 20-30 minutes of Rum Knowledge. The History, How its Made. They Different Styles with a quick showcase on different Brands.

Then we get on to the main Tasting. Not only do I show you how to make a whole plethora of Rum Cocktails. But you also get to taste them too! After all, you need to find your favourite serve! The way I teach Cocktail Making is so you can quite easily make them for yourselves at home. I want to make Rum accessible to you. I don’t want it to be that thing you feel like you can only have when you’re out.

Cocktails you’ll get to sample…

  • Cuba Libre

  • Dark & Stormy

  • Rum & Ting

  • Rum & Pineapple Soda

  • Rum & Tonic

  • Daiquiri

  • Mojito

  • Pina Colada

  • Rum Old Fashioned

  • Mai Tai

  • Hurricane

  • Planters Punch

  • El Presidente

  • Mary Pickford

  • Painkiller

  • Swizzle

  • Reggae Rum Punch

  • My Rum Punch

That’s a lot of Cocktails, isn’t it?! 😂 But to be fair, they’re only small sample tasters. I’m not gonna give you 15 Cocktails over a couple of hours! All these Cocktails are very different in Style, from Citrusy and Balanced to Luscious and Sweet. And I guarantee there’s a cocktail here to everyone.

Once we’ve tasted all these, you’ll then be able to choose your favourite to have as a proper Cocktail at the end of the Tasting to finish of the evening!
